Cleaning Tips for a Long Lasting Carpet
After spending money on replacing your carpet or installing carpeting for the first time, the last thing you want is to have to replace it before it’s necessary. Since carpet traps sand, dirt, and other debris more than other flooring types, it’s important to stay on top of cleaning your carpet in order to keep it looking new and fresh for years to come.
Blot Stains, Don’t Rub Them
Cleaning stains the right way is crucial to keeping your carpet in tip-top shape. When you get anything on your rug or notice a stain, it’s important to act quickly, always try lifting the stain with water first, and to blot the stain. If you rub it, the stain could be set even further, eliminating the possibility of getting it out.
When using stain removing products, always give club soda or vinegar a try before utilizing any commercial products. If the stain still doesn’t lessen, always spot try commercial cleaning products before applying them to the stain to ensure they don’t ruin your carpet.
As dirt builds up in the fibers of your carpet and people are walking across it, the dirt rubs against the fibers, creating small nicks and dulling the sheen. When this happens, the carpet appears dull in these areas versus the rest of the carpet. Be sure to vacuum regularly, always start with a clean bag/filter, and have your vacuum set at the right height.
Utilize a Professional Carpet Cleaner
Having your carpets professionally cleaned every 12-18 months will not only make your carpets look brand new, but will remove any surface dirt, allergens, and any residue that only professional carpet cleaners will be able to remove. The carpet will be pretreated with a detergent solution before a hot rinse under high pressure is forced into the carpet before being vacuumed out. The process typically takes around three hours depending on the size of the carpet.
